About
Inspired by 36 Days of Type, this 3D type exercise series is inspired by contemporary minimalist sculpture and architecture. It uses a contrast of geometric and organic shapes to create letterforms with various tone-on-tone materials and textures.
Process
Moodboard
I first collected inspiration and reference photos exploring textures, colours and shapes.
Thumbnails
I then created a sketched out of thumbnail sketches until I was satisfied with a design for each letter of the alphabet.
Styleframes
Next, I drew a few styleframes in Photoshop to land the intended aesthetic and lighting.
Storyboard
Once approved, I cleaned up all of the sketches to use as a reference during the modelling process. During this process, I created a quick blockout in 3D using the sketch as a guide to verify if it was functional.
Modelling
Modelling, lighting and compositing was completed in Blender.
